- Ugh. Why do Americans make everything so complicated?! Why should you give 15-20% of your premiums to for-profit insurance middlemen and stockholders when Medicare does the same job with a 2% overhead? Yes, the job can be done with 98% of premiums going directly to healthcare costs.
